In this post we drive from Sremska Mitrovica in Serbia to Zagreb, the Capital of Croatia where this incredible journey began 98 days ago. We drive to and overnight in Slavonski Brod in Croatia along the way.
Slavonski Brod (Pop 59,142, Elev 92m, Founded 6th Century AD) is an agricultural city with the honour of being the first place the Slavic Peoples called home in the 6th Century AD. Set against the Sava River and with its own fortress, it is not flashy with not a lot to see and do. Despite this, it was a great place to relax before our return to Zagreb, the place where the official MAIN FEATURE of BALKANOPOULOS started 98 days ago…
The drive from Slavonski Brod to the Capital Zagreb was all freeway with 130km limit cutting across flat farmland and the odd low-lying forest.
Our arrival into Zagreb brought back memories, the only city besides Podgorica (the Capital of Montenegro) that we visited on two separate occasions. We had seen the sights of Zagreb so it was off to the supermarket, then a haircut and into our air-conditioned unit for a champagne celebration to the end of the MAIN FEATURE of BALKANOPOULOS. Tomorrow would see us journey back to Munich with an overnight stop in Seeboden Village near Salzburg in Austria.
Our last post will be in Munich and feature some pics of Seeboden and a summary of our entire journey including the famous BEST AND WORST – a feature common to the blogs of Golfco Pictures. It will contain a summary of all the things we liked the most and least and a comparison of the 9 Balkan Countries that we visited together…
